Invasive Species: Eurasian Watermilfoil Management
The Commission has helped lead community efforts to manage Eurasian Watermilfoil since the noxious plant was first discovered in the Lake in 1985. The Commission currently operates an annual Eurasian Watermilfoil Management Program. Each year every location where invasive milfoil has ever been recorded is searched. Small milfoil colonies are removed by hand harvesting. In this way the Commission clears up to 80% of the recorded sites each year. Repeated hand harvesting can eliminate all milfoil from a location but re-introduction from other locations is possible.
